June 15: Adebe D.A., Julia McCarthy, and Gillian Savigny

We’re very pleased to present three fine writers on June 15. They’re all women, they’re all poets, we’re all excited. Come down to the Press Club for the antepenultimate Pivot before our summer break for readings from Adebe D.A, visiting poet Julia McCarthy, and Gillian Savigny.

Adebe D.A. is a writer whose words travel between Toronto and New York.  She recently completed her MA at York University, where she also served as Assistant Editor for the arts and literary journal, Existere.  Her debut poetry collection, Ex Nihilo (Frontenac House, 2010) was longlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize, the world’s largest prize for writers under 30.

Julia McCarthy is originally from Toronto. She spent ten years living in the United States, most notably Alaska and Georgia. She has also lived in Norway and spent significant time in South Africa. She is the author of the poetry collections Stormthrower (Wolask and Wynn, 2002) and Return from Erebus (Brick, 2010).  She now resides in Nova Scotia where she works as a freelance writer and editor.

Gillian Savigny is from Vancouver, British Columbia. She recently completed a graduate degree in creative writing at Concordia University and is currently at work on a poetry manuscript entitled Notebook M. In 2006, Gillian won second prize in The Antigonish Review’s Great Blue Heron Poetry Contest. She has served as Managing Editor for Matrix, reviewed for The Montreal Review of Books, and she now lives in Toronto where she works for SickKids Foundation and curates the Strong Words Reading Series.
